Background
This particular non-profit is dedicated to educating health care professionals (HCPs) on how to work with patients within the muscular dystrophy spectrum. While its employees currently travel across the country to teach these courses, they cannot be everywhere and there are a number of locations that don’t have enough interest to justify setting up a workshop. So they’re looking for guidance from us to help extend their reach to anyone with an internet connection.
We’re then working directly with this non-profit to build a custom learning management solution for HCPs, which will allow them to purchase and complete their courses. Upon completing a course, and passing a final exam, the HCP will receive a certification of completion, which can be used for continuing education credits.
On top of offering courses to HCPs, they also want to open up the platform to families who suffer with these diseases. The only difference being they can complete all these courses at no cost, but cannot receive any certifications.
The Build
This project is currently in the design phase. An initial MVP has been built, however, using Ruby on Rails and a little bit of React. We’re still evaluating the needs of this application, as there are talks of creating a mobile application, which may change how we decide to proceed.
